Want to be a teacher?

Educator’s Ally helps aspiring and early career educators find positions in K-12 private and independent schools nationwide. We are currently assisting schools throughout the country with their searches for entry level English teachers for the ‘26-27 school year.

Early Career Positions – Teaching Fellowships

Many schools have teaching fellowship opportunities for early career teachers. These are paid, full-time positions. Teaching Fellows teach at the middle or high school level where they focus on a specific subject area, such as English.

Teaching Fellow positions vary from school to school: some are one-year while others are two-years in length. Two-year Teaching Fellows often have the opportunity to earn a masters degree (paid in part by the school). One example of this type of program is the Independent School Teaching Residency Program at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education

Throughout Teaching Fellowships, Fellows benefit from professional development and are mentored by an experienced faculty member in their department. Fellows also have a cohort of peer teaching fellows with whom they share and strategize about their successes and challenges. Strong candidates will have demonstrated scholarship and initiative, will enjoy working with bright and motivated adolescents, and will thrive in an environment that asks for community engagement.

Teaching Fellow Responsibilities:

While the duties of a fellow vary from school to school, responsibilities typically include:

  • Classroom teaching (1-3 sections)
  • Contribute to an engaging English curriculum alongside a mentor teacher
  • Meet with peer teaching fellows and mentor teacher routinely
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as student clubs, coach athletic teams, advise affinity groups, student trips
  • Serve as an advisor or co-advisor to a small group of students
  • If boarding school: participate in residential life, dorm duty

Timeline: We are already working searches for fall ’26! Most searches finish up by the spring.

Desired experience may include:

  • An undergraduate degree is required
  • Prior experience or degree in English, literature, the Classics, comparative literature, creative writing, linguistics, literacy studies, or any related field
  • Strong academic performance and passion for the subject area
  • A demonstrated interest in teaching and/or working with young people
  • Experience working/volunteering with students or school-age kids in any capacity this may include: tutoring, camp counselor, babysitting, athletic coaching, teaching assistant (TA), peer mentorship, residential duties, etc…
  • Interest in participating in extracurricular areas such as athletics, the arts, community service, debate, student publications, affinity groups etc..
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, and communication skills
