The British Government’s Consulate-General in Boston is offering an exciting opportunity to join the Press, Politics and Public Affairs Team as Press, Politics, and Public Affairs Officer. This is a meaningful role which supports and further develops the special relationship between the UK and the US – contributing to work shaping international diplomacy to make a real difference globally.

The US Network offers a unique, career-enhancing opportunity and is committed to supporting its staff through a comprehensive benefits package- including generous leave, competitive insurance options, a top-tier 401(k) programme, and access to world-class learning and development resources.

We are committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance and supporting employee wellbeing through a structured hybrid working model that includes opportunities for remote work and flexible hours, where operational needs allow.

In this role, you will be part of a dynamic international environment spanning the British Government’s extensive network across the United States and the United Kingdom, which includes the Embassy in Washington, the UK Mission to the United Nations, multiple Consulates, and other Government Offices—comprising over 900 staff and supporting the work of approximately 30 UK government departments and agencies.

As Press, Politics, and Public Affairs Officer at the British Consulate-General Boston, you will contribute to strengthening UK-US collaboration by shaping Britain’s public profile in New England. Positioned within the Press, Politics, and Public Affairs team, you will work closely with internal stakeholders such as the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST), FCDO policy teams, the British Embassy Washington, and other government departments, as well as with external partners including elected officials and New England’s press corps. This role supports the UK’s broader strategic objectives across economic growth, climate, science, innovation, and other subject areas and offers valuable experience in international engagement and cross-government collaboration.

We’re looking for a creative, collaborative, politically aware, and detail-oriented professional with experience in communications and public affairs. You’ll bring strong written and verbal communication, good judgement, research, and relationship-building skills, alongside a commitment to high-quality delivery, public service, and continuous learning.

Roles and responsibilities

Work closely with the Head of Press, Politics and Public Affairs to ensure strategy and deliverables in these three areas (Press, Politics, and Public Affairs) are met:

  • Communications (50%): Implement a communications strategy that strengthens the UK’s reputation and supports the Consulate’s objectives across New England. Manage social media channels, track analytics, and work with colleagues to deliver clear, engaging content that presents a professional, modern face of the UK.
  • Politics (20%): Identify, develop, and maintain a network of relationships with key stakeholders across New England across a range of subjects. Identify and implement creative ways to raise the positive profile of the UK in New England, including with future leaders. Assist with regular political reporting on key electoral races in New England.
  • Marshall Scholarship administration (20%): Oversee the regional Marshall Scholarship application and selection process in coordination with the regional committee chair. Lead efforts for university outreach and applicant recruitment throughout the year along with regional alumni engagement.
  • Visits (10%): Contribute to Post’s delivery of official visits by UK Ministers, Members of Parliament and other government officials through programme planning and briefing.
  • Must be willing to help coordinate Consulate events, including photography and event logistics.
